Foster Care Program
People often say “if I could I would take them all” well no one can. But you can make a big difference, and besides Adoption becoming a foster home, even once or twice a year-enables us to pull more dogs and cats who are on endangered lists at Local Shelters. For these pets time has run out.You can give two weeks to 2 months of your time, love and attention, knowing you’ve saved a life.
It constantly amazes us how loving these animals continue to be, when all some of them have ever known is fear and abuse. We watch as an emaciated, depressed, dog or cat rebounds, learning to trust again. With good nutrition, Veterinary care and TLC their personalities start to show. Instead of cowering or hiding they seek you out for attention, the feeling that this gives us is hard to put into words. It’s a bittersweet thing we do in Rescue, after all we care for animals as if they were our own, and when they are ready, send them off to new loving homes along with a little piece of our hearts
The Dog House is looking for loving, temporary homes for our rescued dogs and cats. Your foster will come to you spayed or neutered, with all vaccines current. Occasionally we will have a special needs foster, one who requires rehabilitation like a dog who has been hit by a car or has been removed from an abusive home. People with some veterinary skills, or who either are retired or work from home and have the extra time to devote are best suited to foster the special needs animals.
What is foster care?
A foster family provides temporary in-home care including shelter, food, and grooming. The average time commintment is usually between 2 weeks to 2 months.- Caring for a dog or cat in a loving home environment helps ensure the adoptability of these animals and often rebuilds their trust.

animals in foster care are the sole responsibility
of The Dog House Rescue and Adoption and any decision regarding
adoption and permanent placement is exclusively
the decision of the Director.
What are the costs?
- The
Dog House pays for all veterinary care and any
veterinary appointments are arranged through
the Director, with the exception of emergency
care-which should be taken to Dekalb Gwinnett
Animal Emergency Clinic Only

cost of food, litter and other daily items are
the responsibility of the foster parent/family.
What is needed?
- Willingness to commit time and energy to a dog or cat that will eventually be adopted.
- Appropriate facilities to care for the animals including a method of seperating foster care animals from personal pets if necessary.
- To transport your foster to adoptions on Saturdays.
What are the rules?
- The fostered animal must be made available for viewing at our adoption days which are Held Saturdays 11-6. Drop off is from 11am-12pm, pick up from 5pm-6pm.
- Please do not adopt an animal out or make any adoption decision for the animal without consulting The Dog House Rescue first.
- Please be careful that you not place one of our animals in any hazardous, risky, or potentially life threatening situation.
- Our animals should never be taken out of state or on vacations-We will make arrangements to foster them if you are planning on leaving while you are a foster.
- You are welcome to help with adoptions on Saturdays if you wish, just consult with The Dog House Rescue before hand for some information on doing so.
- If an animal needs medical care or if you have concerns or questions please consult with The Dog House Rescue before you take the animal anywhere-unless this is a medical emergency in which it should be taken to Dekalb Gwinnett Animal Emergency Clinic Only-(770) 491-0661.
